Watershed Landscape Project
WYGT is involved in the Watershed Project, which covers the Southern Pennines and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and LEADER. The project started in March 2010 and lasts for three years. We have surveyed six Local Geological Sites and consulted with the owners and managers about the sort of geological interpretation that would be suitable at each site.
Dimples Quarry Local Geological Site on Penistone Hill at Haworth has already seen some changes in line with recommendations in the Site Management Plan. Trees have been cleared from some disused rock faces so that the features are more visible and access has been improved by Bradford Council. The Council will erect an interpretation board at the entrance to the quarry, which will show the rocks and features which can be seen there. A leaflet describing a geological trail on Penistone Hill, which will include Dimples Quarry, will be produced during the next year. We hope to add plenty of information about geology, as well as the quarrying and building stones in the Upper Worth Valley.
Site Management Plans have also been completed for Gorpley Clough LGS at Todmorden, March Haigh and Buckstones LGS near Marsden, Ogden Water LGS near Halifax, Baildon Moor LGS and Cludders Rocks, Widdop LGS. Displays, leaflets and interpretation boards with geological information for each site will be produced during 2012.
