Dynamic Earth

This course will cover the composition of the earth and the ways by which this is known; the distribution of earthquakes and volcanoes; major surface features and how and why these change through time because of plate tectonics.

A Beginners Course in Geology C3646906

This course will include a historical review, minerals and volcanoes, igneous rocks, weathering and erosion, sedimentary rocks, metamorphism and continental drift/plate tectonics. Students will be encouraged to bring their own specimens for discussion and identification.

An illustrated course covering how fossils form, their uses in geology, evolution, earth history and extinction events, before dealing specifically with corals, trilobites, ammonites, graptolites, bivalves, sea urchins and brachiopods. Learn how to date rocks in the field. Every class will include discussion and identification of learners' own specimens.

The Yorkshire Dales is a special home for geology and wild plants, e.g. Ilkley Moor is acidic due to peat and gritstone. Malham has limestone and so attracts different flora. This course will look at areas of the Yorkshire Dales and their differences.
