We had a cold, windy day for a Kirklees Countryside walk to look at the rocks and landscapes around Digley Reservoir, near Holmfirth.    21 people and a dog heard about the rocks formed 300 million years ago in the Carboniferous deltas which were deposited on the continent which lay across the equator.  We studied quarrying methods in the quarries and a visitor brought some excellent goniatite fossils, which are of great importance for correlating rocks from place to place.  The views from the tracks above Digley Reservoir show how the West Yorkshire landscape has been shaped by alternating sandstone and mudstone layers
