SITE DESCRIPTION:
Exposures of Upper Carboniferous Kinderscout Grit form a series of
25m high crags
overlooking Widdop reservoir. The western part of the site contains
an extensive boulder
field, where blocks of gritstone have collapsed and slipped down slope
toward the
reservoir. A distinct perched boulder overlooking the site is thought
to be an erratic,
moved to its present position during the last ice age. The mineralogy
and texture of the
rock can be seen in loose material lying below the crags.
