SITE
DESCRIPTION:
Noon Nick contains a well preserved glacial meltwater channel cut parallel
to the
escarpment overlooking the Aire Valley at Saltaire. Noon Nick lies
at a height of 215
metres above sea level. Its channel can be followed parallel to Stoney
Ridge Road
through the plantation (no public access in the plantation) to Dungeon
Wood before it
turns to the east.
HISTORICAL ASSOCIATIONS:
EDUCATIONAL VALUE:
This is an important site for studying evidence of glaciation in conjunction
with other
meltwater channels in the district.
AESTHETIC CHARACTERISTICS:
There are extensive panoramic views to the north and west.
ACCESS AND SAFETY:
Park off Stoney Ridge Road (SE 119 360) to observe Noon Nick and
the overflow
channel through Stoney Ridge Plantation (no public access to
the plantation).
Alternatively, it is possible to park in the lay-by on High
Bank Lane (SE 133 368) to visit
Dungeon Woods. Avoid parking on any main roads near to either
locality.
